Jack Vermee’s Cinema Reborn 2019 Favourites

Jack-Vermee

There were many people who met Jack Vermee in Vancouver when they trekked on over to BC to attend the Vancouver International Film Festival and partake of the special pleasures of Tony Rayns’ Dragons & Tigers program of films from East Asia. That was in Vancouver back in the time when it brought to the west the early films of such now-renowned directors as Hirokazu Koreeda, Jia Zhangke, Bong Joon-ho, Miike Takashi. They were great days.

Jack was a key member of Alan Franey’s programming team and also edited Vancouver’s excellent festival catalogue, a model of its kind.

Nowadays Jack is happily ensconced in Paris with wife Emmanuelle and still advises the VIFF team about its program. For his day job he lectures on film at a Paris University.

Jack’s choices.
